India’s artificial intelligence (AI) job market is witnessing a sharp regional imbalance, with Mumbai emerging as one of the most talent-constrained Global Capability Centre (GCC) hubs, according to the ANSR AI Talent Trends in India’s GCCs Report 2025.
Mumbai: High Demand, Low Talent Supply
- Mumbai generates 15% of India’s AI job postings
- But the city has only 8% of the country’s AI workforce
- This mismatch highlights growing pressure on companies to attract and retain AI specialists.
Bengaluru: India’s Undisputed AI Powerhouse
Bengaluru continues to lead the nation’s AI ecosystem with:
- 29% of India’s total AI talent pool
- 31% of all AI job openings
Its dominance is driven by:
- A high concentration of global GCCs
- A mature ecosystem of product, engineering, and platform teams
Why the Gap Exists
Vikram Ahuja, co-founder of ANSR, explained that the depth and density of talent differ significantly between regions. He noted that Bengaluru’s richer talent ecosystem continues to accelerate its growth momentum, widening the gap with other metros like Mumbai.
This regional talent divide highlights both the opportunities and challenges for India’s booming GCC and AI landscape.
